Slow Looking

Light Memory Jo Sandman (2004-06)

This photo features a sepia toned scan of an X-ray or Ultrasound, two small figures are curled up into a fetal position in the center. The two children have opaque features that disappear the further away you step. The detail increases are you get closer, highlighting the tiny fingers clenched in a fist, slope of the nose, and each vertebrae of the spine. The sepia tone of the scan helps lend its self to the emotional undertones in this scan along with the others in the collection, making the work more alive. This work brought a lot of questions to my mind, are they twins? If they're twins why is one a lot bigger than the other? Why are there X-Rays of children, are they alive? Where did the artist get these scans, does the artist know them?
